I’m that person that registers domain names for fun. Usually a new registration always emerges from a great idea, what should lead into my next awesome side-project. Unfortunately I’m also that person that never does a thing with these domains. Because where on earth do I get the time to work on these fun projects?

So, domain names come and go. I’ve let go both beauties and silly ones. The very first real domain name I registered, was the one when I was still a child. I think I was about 14 years old, and thought it was nice to have my own name registered. So that was when bert-bredewold.nl saw the light. It was the time where a new registration took a very large form to fill in, and a manual bank transfer was needed. Then some manual processing I think, since it took a few days before I could use it.

All I ever did with it, was hosting a school project on it. About Martin Luther. In HTML (4?) CSS (2?). And Frames. Yes, frames! And presumably some tables of course. After all, totally fine in 2002.

On of these domains is ‘bert.app’, which also supposed to be a ‘fun’ sideproject. When you query a WHOIS on the domain, you can see the exact moment of registration:

whois bert.app | grep Date
Updated Date: 2023-10-17T16:03:26Z
Creation Date: 2018-05-08T18:35:48Z

Today, about 6 years later, is the day that I point my A record to something tangible. And to prevent further procrastination, I decided use Quartz for now. Markdown for the win!

Voila!

(Well, actually Netlify suggests using an ‘ALIAS’ record. Interesting 🤔)
